Bright Ideas - Celebrations
Guides Own
- We'd gather at the campfire ring (when ashes have cooled), explaning to
the girls that while it is Sunday morning when many people go to church,
this was not a church service, its a time to wind up our camp, remember all
the fun stuff and take away some memories.
- To open by singing "I've got the joy down in my heart", then
talk about how Baden Powell would take the ashes of one campfire and add to
the next. (got a writeup on it from a Guiding web page, just read from it).
- We prepared film canisters for them, hot glued brown ribbon on them so
they could be pinned on hat, and cut strips of paper to fit rolled around
the inside edge where they would write the name and dates of each camp they
take ashes from.
- Leader would scoop ashes into them for them.
- Then we would procede to reward the "kind campers". Throughout
the weekend kids would enter the name of girls they saw doing something nice
for somebody unasked, to receive a gift.
- Then we had a thank you gift for our District Commissioner because she
attended as our CLC, explained to the girls that without her we couldn't
come to camp.
- Then give out evaluation forms, these are smilely face sheets where they
would give the face a smile or frown depending on whether they liked each
activity.
- Then would end with passing out the Brownie camp badges to those who were
camping for the first time, and Jubilee crests to all.
- Ended the ceremony with "Say Why do we Have To Say Goodbye".
