Tribute Giving

  • Special Occasion: A Special Occasion Gift is a unique opportunity to let family members, friends or colleagues know that you are thinking of them on a birthday, anniversary, graduation, retirement or other memorable occasion. We will gladly send a card to the individual(s) being honoured, acknowledging their special occasion and your thoughtfulness.

  • In Memoriam: An In Memoriam Gift is a caring way to express sympathy and to honour someone's memory. We would be happy to send an acknowledgement to the family.

All names of persons In Memoriam will be permanently recognized on the In Memoriam plaque in Girl Guide House, Edmonton.

If you are making arrangements for a loved one, we would be happy to provide In Memoriam cards to the funeral home. Please call the office at the number noted above.

Planned Giving

  • A legacy or planned gift is a charitable gift made from your estate and a commitment to the future. These deferred gifts can help you make the most of your assets while, at the same time, sustain your passion for Guiding by making a powerful impact on the lives of girls and young women for future generations.

A planned gift comes in many forms and is primarily pledged as a gift through a will. Examples of planned gifts include:

  • A bequest is a gift made through your will. Your gift to GGC-Alberta Council through your estate planning will make a lasting contribution to the Guiding Movement in Alberta, Northwest Territories and Yukon. A bequest can be a specific amount or a percentage of your estate and it can reduce the tax payable on your final tax return.
  • A gift of stocks may also be made through your will. All stock donations are converted to cash upon receipt by GGC-Alberta Council.
  • A gift of life insurance allows you the opportunity to make a significant contribution to Guiding for a fairly small annual payment. You can transfer ownership of a policy to GGC-Alberta Council and receive a full tax receipt for the accumulated cash value. You could also designate GGC-Alberta Council as the beneficiary of an insurance policy while retaining ownership of the policy, offering your estate tax benefits.

Girl Guides of Canada - Alberta Council encourages all donors who are planning a significant gift to seek independent legal and/or financial planning advice.
