Special Ceremonies - Themes

| General Information | Themes | Protocol | Checklist |

Do you have a theme Ceremony that you are willing to share? Send to web coordinator to have it loaded here!

Any ceremony can have a theme. It can be based on something that is relevant to the girls such as a movie, or TV show, on something that is relevant to the world such as an environmental issue, on a book, a cartoon character, a time of the year, a special holiday, on Guiding specific things.

  • A theme is something that the girls should be involved in choosing and carrying out.
  • A theme should be something that takes into account all the families religious and cultural restrictions so that all Members can participate fully.
  • A theme can have costumes and props that are elaborate or simple
  • A theme should be something that the guests can all understand or a leader should be explaining what is happening as it unfolds.

Some ideas to base themes on:

  • Space
  • Seasons - Glorious Fall Colours, Sprintime Awakening, Sunny Days, Winter Frolics
  • Constellations - Milky Way Enrollment
  • Candle Light Ceremonies
  • Rainbow - used for bridging ceremony or Spark ceremony
  • Fairy Tales - Alice in Wonderland, Cinderalla, Sleeping Beauty
  • Cartoons - Mickey and Minnie Mouse, any of a non violent nature
  • International Themes - based on World Centres, choose a country with different culture and clothing that you can copy - Japenese tea ceremony, Polish Pole Dance,
  • Holidays - Christmas, Halloween, New Years, Thanksgiving, Harvest, - but be very careful that you are not offending any religious or cultural group in your unit. When different religions and cultures are in one unit check with the parents to see if there are any concerns with any particular holidays and what you can do to make the celebrations inclusive for them
